RESERVE DEPUTIES

The Sheriff's Office bolsters its staff with specially trained members of the community who serve as unpaid volunteer reserve deputies. Members of the community who are interested in volunteering their time may submit an application to the department. Those selected will attend a reserve officer-training academy, which is held in Pasco, Washington in January through May of each year. The local academy provides over 200 hours of training and upon successful completion, the individual will receive certification as a Washington State Reserve Police Officer. Upon completion of the academy, new deputies will enter into a field-training program at the Sheriff's Office that allows them to complete the qualification process. Reserve deputies provide a minimum of 16 hours per month by riding with and assisting full-time deputies, as well as helping out with special assignments and duties.
