ONLINE REPORTING PORTAL

Call 911 if you are reporting an active emergency that needs immediate police response.

Criteria for Filing an Online Police Report

If you are not having an emergency, you can report an incident online using the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Online Reporting Portal. Only certain incident types can be reported online.

Please confirm the following to find out if reporting an incident online is right for you:

  • The incident is not an emergency. If it is, call 911.
  • The incident occurred within unincorporated Benton County or Benton City limits and not on a highway. (If your incident occurred inside Kennewick city limits, please go to the Kennewick Police Departments Online Reporting portal. For any other jurisdiction, call 509-628-0333.)
  • There are no known suspects.
  • There is no evidence (i.e. physical evidence left behind, video of the incident, etc.)
  • The incident does not involve a firearm.
  • You must have a valid email address to make an online report.

Tips for Filing an Online Police Report

If all of the above criteria have been met, then you are ready to file your online report. If any one of the above criteria are not met, please call the non-emergency phone number at 509-628-0333 and request a deputy to respond.

Here are some tips to file the report:

  • Turn off your pop-up blocking software before filing the report.
  • All fields with a red asterisk (*) are mandatory.
  • Replies and report copies will be sent to the email address that you provide in the report.

Upon Completing the Online Police Report

Once an online police report has been filed, the following process will occur:

  • You will see the words: "Your online police report has been submitted."
  • You will be given a temporary confirmation number (this is NOT your permanent case number).
  • All online reports will be reviewed before they are approved. You will be notified by email if your report does not meet the online reporting criteria or needs additional information.
  • After your report has been reviewed and approved, a permanent case number and a copy of your report will be sent to you by email.

File an Online Police Report

Filing a false police report is a crime. See RCW 9A.84.040 - False Reporting

If you have been involved in a minor traffic collision, you can file a report through the Washington State Patrol website.

If you have previously filed a report and want to add additional information, submit a supplemental report.

The following incidents are the only police reports that can be reported online at this time. If you need to report a different type of incident, call the non-emergency number at 509-628-0333.
