Please Note: Auditor staff cannot offer legal advice or determine the legal correctness or function of the content of your document. It is highly advised that you consult a professional before recording. The responsibility for properly preparing an instrument is that of the document preparer. It is not the responsibility of the County Auditor or Deputy Auditors to screen the document to make sure it is properly drafted. The County Auditor's responsibility is limited to verifying the document meets formatting requirements. Submitters bear the cost of any documents requiring re-recording to correct deficiencies or errors.
You can view documents recorded from January, 1971 to present online at any time. Documents recorded from 1970 and earlier, can be located using the Historical Document Indexes and then viewed in-person at the Auditor's Office or you can submit a document search request. If you're unable to find the document, you may submit a document search request for our Recording Specialists to conduct a search.
Free DD214 Recording: Veterans of the U.S. armed services are entitled to have their Form DD214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, recorded by Benton County (or any county in Washington State) at no charge. There are private commercial services that offer to process a DD214 recording, but at a cost to the veteran. These services are not sanctioned or endorsed by Benton County or the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. To record your DD214 for free with Benton County, contact our Recording Division at 509-786-5620 or visit one of our offices.
Marriage Licensing
Applying for a marriage requires that both names are certified or notarized. In the event that both parties are not present to apply for a marriage in person, the application can be notarized by a notary public for one or both of the parties and brought in to apply for a marriage. No appointment is necessary.
Record a Document
The Auditor's office records documents as required by RCW 36.18. Documents must be in compliance with the recording requirements before a document can be recorded. You may mail your documents to 7122 W Okanogan Pl., Ste E120 Kennewick WA 99336.

Conformed Copies
These are defined as a copy provided by the customer who assumes responsibility of content and is clearly marked as "COPY".
