The Community Development Department is composed of the Planning Division, the Building Division, and the Canine Shelter.

Mission Statement: Provide courteous, professional and efficient customer service while facilitating the County’s growth, protecting the public's health and safety, and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens in Benton County.

The Community Development Department is responsible for:

  • managing the County Comprehensive Plan and administering the County zoning regulations, land division, long range planning, and code enforcement efforts (Planning Division), 
  • managing the building permit process, inspection program(s), and fire/life safety inspection efforts (Building Division), and
  • managing the Benton County Canine Shelter which shelters stray and/or founds dogs from unincorporated areas of Benton County.

Canine Shelter Division:

  • Shelter Hours: Monday-Saturday 10 am – 5 pm
  • To make sure you have enough time to visit our dogs, please arrive at the shelter between 10 am - 4pm
