Benton County has a list of surplus and tax title properties (listed by parcel number) that can be privately negotiated at any time. However, as of February 2024, the County is not entertaining any offers, nor holding any auctions for our Surplus and Tax-Title properties. We are working on updating our current Real Property Surplus policies. Once these policies have been updated, the public will be notified, allowing auctions to continue.
Surplus Properties
County-owned surplus properties are parcels owned by the County, not acquired through tax foreclosure, that can be purchased from the County. Sales of surplus real property are conducted in accordance with Chapter 36.34 RCW.
Tax-Title Properties
Tax-title properties are parcels that offered for auction at tax foreclosure sales, but not sold, and are deeded to the county. These parcels are called "tax-title." They may still be purchased from the county through a tax-title sale. Tax-title properties are subject to the same risks as tax foreclosure properties. Sales of tax-title property are conducted in accordance with Chapter 36.35 RCW.
