Request an Interpreter

The Superior Court is committed to providing Equal Access to Justice for all persons in Benton and Franklin Counties, regardless of their native tongue. Acknowledging that persons who speak a language, other than English, require special consideration to ensure meaningful access to the courts.  The Superior Court for Benton and Franklin Counties obtains interpreters to assist non-English speakers and hearing impaired individuals with court matters.

Scheduling an Interpreter

A request for interpreter should be made as far in advance as practical for a hearing or proceeding, but never less than of five (5) business days prior to the scheduled date.

When scheduling an interpreter for trial, parties and participants should submit their request for an interpreter two weeks prior to their scheduled trial date.  All trials, lasting ½ day or longer, requires two interpreters.  In cases of less commonly spoken languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), it generally takes longer to locate and schedule certified or qualified interpreters.

Every effort is made to have an interpreter in person, however, in some cases an interpreter may be scheduled to interpret by phone for short matters.

If you have a Juvenile case, please send your interpreter requests to jj.dependency@co.benton.wa.us.
