Modification/Termination of:

Minor Guardianships and Nonparental Custody

Filing for Termination or Modification of Minor Guardianship and/or Nonparental Custody:

  1. Petitions to modify or terminate a Final Order in an existing Title 11 Minor Guardianship case shall be initiated by filing a Petition to Terminate or Change Minor Guardianship or Non-Parent Custody Order (GDN M 502).  Additional forms needed to proceed with and complete the process are listed under “Terminate or Change a Minor Guardianship or a Non-Parent Custody Order,” at: Washington State Courts - Court Forms - Change or End a Minor Guardianship.  The clerk will file Petitions to modify or terminate a Title 11 Minor Guardianship Final Order under the existing cause number (case type 4). 
  2. Petitions to modify or terminate a Final Order in an existing Title 26 Non-Parent Custody (case type 3) shall be initiated by filing a Petition to Terminate or Change Minor Guardianship or Non-Parent Custody Order (GDN M 502). Additional forms needed to proceed with and complete the process are listed under “Terminate or Change a Minor Guardianship or a Non-Parent Custody Order,” at:  Washington State Courts - Court Forms - Change or End a Minor Guardianship.  The clerk will issue a new Title 11 cause number (case type 4) for all Petitions to Modify or Terminate a Final Order in an existing Title 26 Nonparental Custody case.

NOTE:  No further motions/petitions will be filed in the case type 3 – Title 26 Non-Parent Custody case.
