Benton County OPD utilizes an email pre-authorization process that complies with CrR 3.1(f)(2). This means that with the exception of bona fide emergency circumstances, all services must be pre-authorized. As a government agency, Benton County OPD is legally prohibited from paying any compensation in advance.

Investigative services - Requests will need to be assigned to one of Benton County OPD's contract investigative services agencies (located on the funding request form). Please provide some details on the scope of investigation request.
Expert services - Benton County OPD reserves the right to impose funding limitations. To minimize travel expenses, Benton County OPD's general policy is to approve only in-state experts unless one is not available.
10.77 Competency Evaluation (second-opinion) - Requests will need to include a copy of the initial competency evaluation order from Eastern State Hospital (DSHS) and the 2nd opinion competency evaluation order. Download a copy of the both orders in the "browse files" section of the request.
SSOSA Evaluation - Requests will need to include a copy of the signed order directing the evaluation. Download a copy of the order in the "browse files" section of the request.
Post-Services Funding - Requests for "boda fide emergency circumstances" can use the same request form. Please state the reason for the post-services funding in the "anticipated scope of work" section of the request.
